Over fall break, I took a short vacation to Key West, Florida. While there I couldn't help but notice the tourist industry. One thing that stuck out in a big way, were all of the items available for rental. Additionally, there were jet skis, boats, charters, dinner cruises.
Think about the following things:
How do they find the customer? How would you market this service?
What other companies are needed for this industry?
My family enjoys vacationing at various beaches, and we always see rentals available. It's a really fun way to enjoy the beach and do a variety of activities without having to actually own the equipment. We tend to look online at consumer websites like Frommers or TripAdvisor for ideas and reviews. Not only do websites like this show what they different options for activities are in the area you may be traveling to, there are consumer reviews that help in deciding which companies are the most reliable, safest, or least expensive. I've seen advertisements for rentals on flyers in hotel lobbies, restaurants, T-shirts, and on the side of the actual equipment itself. These ads all tend to be extremely bright and visible, and they are plastered everywhere. Coupons are on accompanying ads in restaurant guides and area attraction pamphlets. Sometimes there are even employees walking up and down the beach with flyers to drum up business.
